63 different E-words have been the daily answer in the 1,932 puzzles from #0 (June 19, 2021) through #1931 (October 2, 2026). The first was EVADE on puzzle #7 and the most recent was ELEGY on puzzle #1925 (September 26, 2026). How often does an E-word come up?
On average an E-starting answer appears every 31 puzzles, roughly once a month, and the longest gap between two of them was 102 puzzles. By calendar year the count has run 7 in 2021, 10 in 2022, 12 in 2023, 15 in 2024, 8 in 2025, 11 in 2026 (2021 is a partial year starting in June, and the latest year is still in progress). Which E words have never been Wordle answers?
Of the 82 E-words in our curated list, 28 have never been a Wordle answer: EARLS, EARNS, EASED, EASES, EATER, EAVES, EBBED, EDGED, EDGER, EDGES, EDITS, EGGED, EKING, ELECT, ELVES, EMIRS, EMITS, ENDED, ENEMY, EPICS, ERECT, ERRED, EVENS, EVICT, EVILS, EXAMS, EXITS, EXUDE.
Their endings show a pattern. 14 end in S (EDITS, EXAMS, EXITS), 6 end in -ED (EASED, ENDED, ERRED), and 2 end in -ER (EATER, EDGER), so 20 of 28 are plurals or past-tense forms. Among the 63 E-answers there is no -ED verb and only one word ending in S, ETHOS, which is not a plural. Treat it as a strong tendency from past data, not a promise: Wordle accepts many of these words as guesses, they just have not been the solution yet.

EX- is the largest family with 13 words and 10 past answers (EXACT, EXIST, EXTRA, EXULT). If you know a word starts with E and have no other clue, EX-, EN-, and EL- are the safest second letters to guess. Rare second letters still show up: EQUAL and EQUIP use Q, EJECT uses J, and EBONY uses B.
What is the best 5-letter E word to guess in Wordle?
EARTH is the strongest E-word guess based on the letters Wordle answers actually use. Scoring each past E-answer by how many distinct answers contain its letters puts EARTH first, followed by EARLY, ENACT, EMAIL, EXTRA, and ENTRY. Letters like A, R, T, L, and Y appear in many answers, so these words test a lot of the board while locking in the E.
One caveat: opening with an E-word is usually not the best plan. E appears in 47% of all Wordle answers, so it can be found from any position, and a word that merely starts with E spends a slot on it. Does a second E make the answer harder?
Often, yes. Of the 63 E-answers, 34 repeat a letter, almost always E itself, as in EVERY, ELDER, EMBER, EAGLE, and EERIE. That is 54%, against 31% of all answers. If your first guess shows a green E up front, keep a second E on your shortlist before ruling out double-letter words. How do I narrow down E-words with a solver?
Put the E in position one, add every yellow and gray clue you have, and let the Wordle solver filter the list instead of scanning it by hand.
