Was yesterday's Wordle a repeat answer?

No. Puzzle #1929 was the first time RIVER has been a Wordle answer, going by our archive of every puzzle since #0.

You still see older answer pages claiming that Wordle “never uses the same word twice.” That stopped being true on February 2, 2026, when The New York Times brought back CIGAR, the very first answer. Since then our archive counts 25 repeats across 242 puzzles. Every reused word came back at least 524puzzles after its first appearance, so yesterday's word is a safe one to cross off today. The repeat-answers guide lists every one so far.

Which puzzle counts as “yesterday” where you live?

It depends on your clock, which is why answer sites disagree. Wordle switches to a new puzzle at midnight on your own device, so players in Sydney or Tokyo get a new puzzle hours before players in New York. Our archive adds each new puzzle at about 04:05 UTC, just after midnight New York time during daylight saving, and this page rebuilds right after that.

If you're ahead of New York and it's already morning, the puzzle you call yesterday's may still be the newest one here. In that case you'll find it on our today's answer page instead. The puzzle number is the same for everyone, so go by that.

How to work out yesterday's puzzle number

Take the number at the top of your Wordle results, or the one in your shared emoji grid, and subtract one. Puzzle #0 was June 19, 2021, and the count has gone up by one every day since, with no resets. Today's puzzle on our side is #1930, so yesterday was #1929. To find another day, look up its number in the answer archive.

Can you still play yesterday's Wordle?

Yes, but only with a subscription. The free daily game on the New York Times site and app only offers today's puzzle. In May 2024 the Times added a Wordle Archive that lets NYT Games and All Access subscribers replay any past puzzle back to June 2021, and it saves your progress on each one.

There's no official free way to replay one specific past puzzle. The free Wordle Unlimited optionsgive you extra games, but with random words, not yesterday's. If a past puzzle beat you, enter your tiles into the Wordle solver to see which words were still possible at each row.
